Choosing a computer or laptop for Spider-Man and FIFA 23 games

The most anticipated games of late summer and early fall 2022 are undoubtedly Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and FIFA 23. The former is a Spider-Man action game that was previously exclusive to the PlayStation console and is now being ported to PC. The second is a new part of the most popular football simulator from the Electronic Arts studio. It switched to the HyperMotion engine and, of course, updated the squads to take into account all the fresh transfers. This is probably the last game under the FIFA brand — the series will be renamed to EA Sports FC next year.

The online game stores Steam and Origin respectively published the official PC system requirements for Spider-Man and FIFA 23. But as it often happens, the developers indicated outdated models of processors and video cards that can no longer be bought new in stores, only used on Internet flea markets. That’s why we’ve selected modern desktop configurations — for low and high graphics settings, respectively. And also the optimal laptop for average graphics settings.

A processor with 4 physical cores and 8 threads is enough for both low and high settings, for Spider-Man and FIFA 23. There are three options here: the cheapest Ryzen 3 4100, the progressive Core i3-12100F (both without iGPU) and the balanced i3- 10105 if you need to temporarily switch to the built-in video card. Moreover, Ryzen is profitable even at the lowest price of a compatible motherboard: the A320 chipset will cost one and a half times cheaper than the H510 and two times cheaper than the H610. But you will have to flash the BIOS to support Ryzen 3 4100, as well as other products of AMD’s Refresh line.

An integrated video card, even a powerful Radeon Vega 7, 8 or 11, not to mention the Intel UHD 630 and 730, will not be enough for FIFA 23, and even less so for Spider-Man. You can only play with a resolution of 720p, minimum settings and an unstable 30 FPS (with occasional drops to 20). For 1080p and a stable 60+ FPS, a discrete graphics card is required. The minimum is a Radeon RX 6400, but only if the processor is an i3-12100F with a fast PCIe 3.0 bus. In the case of Ryzen 3 4100 or i3-10105 with PCIe 3.0, a loss of up to 30 percent of FPS is possible.

For high settings, a video card with only 4 GB of memory is definitely not enough. Requires Radeon RX 6600 XT or GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, both 8GB. At least 8 GB of system-wide RAM is required. But in order not to have to close the web browser every time before starting the game, it is better to take 16 at once. For Intel Core, even one 16 GB opera module is suitable, while for AMD Ryzen, dual-channel 2×8 GB is desirable. We also draw your attention to the large volume of occupied disk space: 75 GB for Spider-Man and as much as 100 GB for FIFA 23. For comparison, last year’s FIFA 22 took only 50 GB. Also, for the simultaneous installation of these two games and the Windows operating system with a basic set of applications, a 240 GB SSD is no longer enough – the 480 gigabyte one is broken.

Let’s move on to laptops: given that only the RAM and disk will be able to be upgraded over time in a laptop, the choice of mobile processor and video card should be taken as seriously as possible. For average graphics settings, Core i5-11500H, 12500H or Ryzen 5 5600H should definitely be enough. The video card here is essentially without alternative – the mobile GeForce RTX 3050 Ti. In addition to realistic Ray-Tracing, it also supports smart DLSS scaling, which increases frame rates in games.
